Jeffrey Whitten, Ph.D. is an interdisciplinary educator, broadcast professional, and award-winning producer with over 15 years of experience overlapping his expertise in media production, academic instruction, and environmental research.

22 West Media

Dr. Whitten currently serves as the Assistant Director of 22 West Media at CSULB, where he oversees student-run television, radio, and magazine branches. In this role, he leads a diverse team of students and professional staff, championing inclusive storytelling, cross-platform media training, and ethical standards in journalism and production. His leadership fosters a dynamic environment that empowers students to create meaningful and technically adept content.

Broadcast Production

He also teaches in the Cinematic Arts Department at CSULB, where he has designed and led upper-division courses in multi-camera studio production and directing since 2018. His students receive comprehensive, hands-on training in narrative and non-fiction formats—ranging from sitcoms and music shows to news programs and live broadcasts.

Titan Communications

Previously, Dr. Whitten spent a decade as Television Specialist at Titan Communications, CSUF, where he produced award-winning programming and mentored aspiring content creators across Titan TV, Titan Radio, and Titan Universe. His work helped elevate the center’s profile in regional and national media competitions.

Los Alamitos Community Television

Outside academia, Dr. Whitten is a Senior Producer at Los Al TV Studio 1, where he has developed community-based programming since 2008. He has contributed to award-winning documentaries and provided technical expertise in cinematography, editing, and broadcast engineering. In addition to producing local content, he has actively worked to safeguard access to public domain works, defending the Losaltvstudio1 YouTube Channel against false copyright claims and helping preserve educational and historical media for public use.

Dr. Whitten holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of North Dakota (May 2025), an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from California State University, Fullerton, and a B.A. in Film & Television Studio Production (Directing & Animation emphasis) from California State University, Long Beach.
